The Center for Life Sciences Technology was awarded $392,604 from the state of Texas to expand CLiST initiatives. Dr. Iyer is the Principal Investigator for this grant.
- Apr. 2009 - Exxon Mobil awards grant to CLiST
Exxon Mobil and CLiST Board member Dr. Mani Subramanian contribute $15,000 to CLiST
- Oct. 2008 - THECB Approves UH Biotech Program
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (
THECB) has approved the UH Biotechnology Program as housed in the College of Technology.
- Oct. 2008 - UH Forms ISPE Student Chapter
Bob Best, ISPE’s President and CEO, recently signed the official charter for the University of Houston Student Chapter.
Through the hard work of its founding 15 students, and the support of the local South Central Chapter, the students begin their activities with the assistance of Faculty Advisor Dr. Rupa Iyer and Industry Advisor Sam Evetts.

Dr. Rupa Iyer, Director of the Biotechnology Degree Program at the University of Houston, has assumed leadership of CLiST as the new Director of the Center for Life Sciences Technology.
- July 6, 2007 - First UH Biotechnology Course Offered This Fall
Biotechnology Regulatory Environment (BTEC 2320) is the first course developed by the UH College of Technology’s Center for Life Sciences Technology (CLiST). UH's proposed biotechnology degree program is expected to receive final confirmation from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board by next summer.

As reported in the
UH Applause, Dr. Rupa Iyer receives grant from NSF for the development of two undergraduate biotechnology laboratory courses.
- Dec. 2006 - Dr. Iyer Receives NSF Grant
Rupa Iyer, Ph.D., Director of Biotechnology Programs and Research Associate Professor at the College of Technology received a grant of $121,800 from the National Science Foundation. The grant titled “From Nature to Lab to Production- Infusing Cutting Edge Research into Undergraduate Biotechnology Curriculum” will support the development of two undergraduate biotechnology laboratory courses. The project based laboratory curriculum is developed in collaboration with academic and biotech industry partners. Further information is available at the NSF website.
